Generations - Another great leader of the Decepticon since Megatron and Straxus. Thunderwing is a mega pretender in the G1 continuity. He does not appear in any animation before including G1 or Japanese Masterforce series. You can find his first appearance in Marvel G1 Transformers. I have not read the comic book yet but according to TFwiki; he is one hell of a Decepticon leader. This figure is a straight forward Transformers figure and not a pretender as he was before. Here is my review.
Bio
Thunderwing is so single-minded and powerful that even Megatron hesitates to get in his way. He is loyal to the Decepticon commander, but once he is given an order, nothing stops him until the mission is complete. All too often, that mission is the annihilation of a world that has defied the will of Megatron — a task at which Thunderwing excels. Turn the tables on enemy forces when you throw this warrior into the fight. Your Thunderwing figure is dedicated to destroying any opponent and his two launching missiles will help you two get the job done. If the hand-to-hand robot action turns into a chase, convert your fighter into stealth jet vehicle mode, detach his recon drone and send them racing off to rule the skies. Figure comes with 2 launching missiles. Battle-ready robot-to-vehicle figure converts from robot mode with two launching missiles to stealth jet vehicle mode — and back again.
Vehicle Mode
I just love his jet mode. Although it is a fact that there is a lot of tribute to his G1 counterpart such as the detachable drone. In the G1 toyline; the drone was his robot mode and the pretender shell was the whole space ship. Instead of a weird space ship; we got ourselves a sort of high tech MIG plane. Beautifully design and I really love it so much.
Robot Mode
This is the best figure that Hasbro has ever produced. Just look at that detailed paint. And the transformation process was the most easiest and fun to do. The only concern was that you need to flip the rear upper wings and fold it outward. I always flip it inward and the front cockpit does not rest nicely at his back. So just a friendly reminder.
Conclusion
Thunderwing was a shelves warmer on most toy store here (even for the Takara United version). I know that he is not as famous as the rest of the Decepticon. But this figure is a worthy buy. A much better mold than the old seekers mold. Fortunately; they have released another repaint/remold (which I really highly approved); of formerly known Black Shadow and known as Sky Shadow (due to copyright infringement). That one was also the bomb. And if you are lucky (and rich); you can get Metalhawk remold/repaint (in his former glory pretender shell).
