Hybrid Style - I have been curious on this figure since it first released back in 2006. There is another version that is way cooler than the already cool version of this. The THS-02B. It is a black repaint of the original one but has two rocket launcher and an additional two head. But I am not going to talk about that. I have bought this from a friend and swap it with my ROTF Mindwipe (I don't really like the mold to be honest). My first thought that it would be big as a deluxe class but it turns out to be small as a legend class. But all my expectation has changed when I opened it up just to see what is all about. And amazingly; I really love this figure very much. It is a small version of Masterpiece. Don't take my word on it, just read more to find out.
Vehicle Mode
Well, the truck mode was a bit weird but the transformation was accurate as a Masterpiece. Due to its fragile parts, sometimes it tends to lose a bit. The truck was a die-cast metal and unfortunately the trailer itself is made out of plastic. This figure comes with the legendary roller and can fit inside the trailer. Do not expect to put a deluxe class inside the trailer though. But I did try to fit in a legend class Bumblebee and it fits perfectly. There is a mechanism at the back of the trailer to make the transport rail pops out. A very interesting feature. An every time you open the trailer; the bottom legs will also pops out making it as realistic as possible. A very nice feature indeed.
Battle Station Mode
Originally, The Transformers were known as Diaclone. It is manned vehicle and include an original human figure. As you can see; battle roller, the battle station and Optimus Prime himself is actually a drone or 'mobile suit' as I like to call it. But Hasbro changed all that and born was The Transformers. That is why you see, there is a human cockpit in the original G1 version. Well, not much to say about the battle station mode. In the G1 cartoon, I only see Optimus Prime used it only once and I am not sure in the comic book as I have not read it before. But I do know that, this battle station mode has make way and evolve Optimus Prime on future comic book and cartoon series (eg. Masterforce, Robot in Disguise, Cybertron and Dark of The Moon movie).
Repair Bay
I thought they have they repair medic on board. Ratchet is so lazy these day. Anyway, this is a quick repair bay just like the original G1 mold. There are weapon compartment storage and two hidden storage box for keeping the extra hands.
Alternate Mode
Compared to the original G1 mold; this mold is as closely as accurate and faithful to the Masterpiece version. Awesome right? Its articulation is amazing and you can say I really love it. Its die-cast metal build and it is pretty heavy for a small figure. You can see the difference between the legend class with this figure (pictured above). The height is totally different. There are a total 8 hands pieces (four each for both hand and including the original one). The mold is amazingly accurate with the Masterpiece version. No wonder this is called the Mini Masterpiece.
Additional Parts
Well, I never knew that Optimus Prime has a jetpack before. All I remember in the G1 animated was he borrowed someone jetpack and pursue the fleeing Decepticon ship. In vehicle mode, the jetpack can be mounted on the front of the trailer. Making it looks more like the DOTM Ultimate Optimus Prime. I cannot afford a Jetwing Optimus Prime; but this would suffice. Then there is the Matrix of Leadership; the one that Ultra Magnus really has a hard time to crack it open (LOL). It is so small but fits nicely on his chest. If you skip the instruction manual completely; you will never know that it even existed inside his chest. But I would be freaking scare as hell if someone open his chest, just to show you the Matrix (gory).
Conclusion - This is a very nice collection for those who love Optimus Prime. I would rather have it in a MIB or MISB condition as I know the value of this figure will rise up one day. It is very rare and even the market price was actually around B$150+. Very expensive for a small figure. I would also suggest that you would keep this far away from children as it contain small pieces (choke hazard). If you cannot afford to buy the MP-10; then this is the figure for you. Highly recommended.
